A lot of driving

Can't get this map embed thing to work on my mobile so use your imagination. Rough map here https://goo.gl/images/ztRvft but as you reach the end we took a detour north to oatman whigh is near to bullhead city. (Where they filmed airwolf) All in all the drive took 9 hrs. We left sunset strip around 9.30 and arrived kingman 6.00 with only a couple of stops and a 90 minute traffic hold up in the San bernadino mountains.

Started the day with buffet breakfast in comfort Inn. Ate everything on offer and  took some fruit away.  Bryn made some top quality egg and sausage muffins.

Much driving out to the wild west. Highlights included a volcanic landscape, dust storms and 1 or 2 hairy moments on the freeway. Felt like I was in duel at times. That film by Spielberg.  Strayed onto route 66 a couple of times but the drive was taking a long time so stuck to the interstate in the main.  Main detour other than gas stop was oatman... what a place... wild wild west ghost town.

Oatman. Where gold miners and their trusty burros prospected in the early parts of the 20th century. Was a thriving town of 8000 at its peak and on route 66.  Was deserted a number of years back but is now a well visited ghost town to get an insight into the lives of those pioneers who popu lated this barren landscape back in the day.

Staying in the days inn kingman where a trip to the pool a welcome way to stretch out and dust off the days travails.

Great Mexican food to complete a very full day in which I ended feeling very full. I ate steak ranchero which had a very warm, homely sauce. Bryn had chimichanga, chrissi the 2 amigos and carys can'take remember.  Best food we have eaten all trip and stumbled on this unassuming restaurant by chance (lush mango magharita too!) http://www.oystersaz.com/

No carys blog today as she is too tired...

  1. That's my kind of day in the States, lots of travelling and lots of fun. Oatman looks wonderful. Will add it to my list for when I am next down there.

Great food too - I love Tex-Mex food.
