So my link of the trip doesn't work so gonna look for an image sort of like this http://www.arizona-leisure.com/route-66-attractions.html. We went from kingman to seligman and took a combination of route 66 and the interstate to williams. The williams have reached williams. More later but a mine of photo opps.

(Carys) Hello! I'm sorry for not being part of yesterdays blogs. I was to tired. So, we arrive in Williams today. Lot's of driving, but nowhere near as much as yesterday! We stopped off in in a small town called Seligman. Very old fashioned and western. It was where the ideas for Cars, the Pixar movie, were made. We had a drink there, (Sprite for me,) and a snack, (I had Hersheys - Cookies And Cream.)

We drove out of Seligman, (after I failed to find some Route 66 merchandise that I wanted to to buy to remeber the moment forever,) and later arrived in Williams, a small town, close to the Grand Canyon. We visited the toqn itself, a lovely little place, with lots of shops, houses, cafes and restaurants. They also had this lovely railway station, which suprisingly, still works. We saw a train coming through, and it made a REALLY loud noise.

Then we came and checked in at the campsite/caravan site/logde site. We were staying in a cute luttle logde, with two double beds. It's nic eand cosy. Went out to dinner this evening at 'Cafe 66' and I had my first ever chicken burger. It was really tasty!

And now hre I am, typing this, sitting on my bed with my strawberry milk..........

(Lloyd) Our day went something like this. Google plus doing all sorts of fancy stuff with myou uploads.

(lloyd) Began with a bit of breakfast telly in kingman. They only had the premier league on!! Lightish breakfast and packed. Bignore storm last night which we mainly slept through and still wet today. In fact as we headed inland further toward the canyon weather remained quite temperate. Not the searing heat of previous days. Seligman was pretty much radiator springs and my word they knew it. Worth seeing though and now we were really on route 66.

Drive on route 66 to williams. It appears not so many use it these days. Only saw a couple of other cars. Williams another western town with plenty of food options and is the entry point for the canyon. Spoke to a few people to plan our day tomorrow. It's labour day weekend so we get in free. Good start!!

The site we are staying on is quirky and just outside Williams so very much in the bush. Kids worried about coyotes and bears. I haven't helped in this regaRd.  Had my holiday steak tonight cooked with jalapeƱos.  We seem to have reached the betterms eating part of the holiday. And all washed down with locally brewed grand canyon ale.

  1. The Williams' at Williams - great title. Thanks for sharing your holiday with us, it is like I am there again. I first visited Seligman in 1996, long before it was connected to Cars. But even then it was an over the top Route 66 town. They just milk there history so well - somewhere similar in Wales probably wouldn't even have a road sign.

The picture of the open road and loads and loads of sky is so evocative of US driving for me and then the Steak and 'small' side salad remind me what I love most about the US - loads and loads of food.

Carys - did you count how many carriages/freight cars the train through Williams had? Sounds from the noise you describe like it could be a large one.

    2. Yes, longer than some British tracks those trains. One I saw stopped us at a level crossing and I counted it as 90 so I can believe 120.

    1. I've always had my laptop with me when blogging, blogger works on mobile, but some of its features (like the embedded maps you mention) work best on a computer.
